Ricus is an entrepreneur and manages a Procurement and Distribution company. He is also involved in the e-commerce environment. Rikus served on the School Governing Body (SGB) for Carel du Toit and was Chairperson of the SGB for three years. He is the father of a profoundly deaf child who attended the Carel du Toit Centre from pre-school to Grade 3.
Jerome is a Chartered Accountant with a strong background in finance, operations, and leadership roles. Jerome’s expertise will be invaluable to our Board. With a keen focus on strategy, financial oversight, and organisational development, Jerome’s experience in the education and healthcare sectors will greatly benefit our organisation.
Adri is the former Principal of the Carel du Toit Centre that comprises of the CHAT Centre, the pre-school and the school (Foundation Phase). She has been with Carel du Toit since 1993 and was appointed principal in 2017. Mrs Hodgson is the Board expert on the methodology of the Centre as well as the procedures of the Western Cape Education Department, and policy development.
Mr. van der Merwe was born with a profound hearing loss and attended the Carel du Toit Centre as a young child. His father, J. P. van der Merwe, was the founder of the Carel du Toit Trust. As a very successful businessman, he brings his business acumen to the Board. Mr van der Merwe has served on the Board of Trustees for many years and was the Chairperson of the Board for three years.
Andiswa is an academic and researcher from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She holds the position of Acting Manager: Strategic Initiatives and Projects in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences. She is currently enrolled as a PhD candidate in Marketing, focusing on co-branding.
Lolita is a Communications and Public Relations practitioner with experience as a communications strategist across various industries, specialising in Communications and CSI strategy development and execution, stakeholder partnership management, sponsorships and events. Her current role includes supporting business strategy by creating and implementing internal communication strategies to influence leadership and employee behaviour and engagement.
Felicia has a rich background in executive positions across various industries, brings nearly 40 years of diverse experience to our Board. A business owner and shareholder in multiple ventures, Felicia’s passion for empowering others is evident in her consultancy work and directorship roles. Her dedication to driving success and growth aligns perfectly with our organisation’s values.
Kurt’s diagnosis with profound hearing loss since birth and his personal journey as a former pupil at Carel Du Toit Centre position him uniquely to understand and advocate our community. His dedication to raising awareness of deafness and supporting less fortunate individuals exemplifies his commitment to making a positive impact.
